USports Top 10 Tuesday
BURLINGTON, Ont. - We are through week one of the OUA season, with 11 OUA teams cracking the national polls in this year's first eidition of the USports Top 10.
In football, the Western Mustangs begin ranked number three in the nation after a 66-3 victory on the road at York on Sunday to begin the season. The defending champion Laurier Golden Hawks sit in 6th after a 39-0 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues. The McMaster Mauraders are just ahead of the Ottawa Gee-Gees despite not playing an official game this past weekend, although they did host the Saskatchewan Huskies in an exhibition game. Ottawa cracks the top 10 after a Lewis Ward field goal gave the Gee-Gees a 24-21 victory over the Guelph Gryphons.
For men's soccer, the Guelph Gryphons begin the season ranked third. The Gryphons defeated Windsor on the weekend before concluding their road trip with a 2-2 draw at Td Stadium in London against the Mustangs. Three Toronto teams also crack the top 10, with the York Lions in 6th, the Toronto Varsity Blues in 8th, and the Ryerson Rams in 9th.
The defending OUA women's soccer champion UOIT Ridgeblacks are the highest ranked OUA team in the soccer polls, sitting in 2nd place. The Ridgeblacks area perfect 2-0-0 to start the season and take on Trent this weekend. Also joining UOIT in the top 10 are the Queens Gaels (0-0-0) and the Western Mustangs (1-1-0).
