No. 8 Ridgebacks back in the win column
KINGSTON, Ont. – The No. 8 ranked UOIT women's soccer team was able to rebound from their first loss in 11 games as they beat the Queen's Gaels 2-1 on the road Friday night.
UOIT has been unbeatable on the road as they have posted a 5-0-1 record including five straight wins. The Ridgebacks will look to continue that strong play away from home as they close out the season in Kingston and Peterborough.
It took no time for the teams to get on the scoreboard as the opening eight minutes saw both teams find the back of the net.
Tara Bartram opened up scoring for Queen's seven minutes into the contest, scoring her fifth goal of the season. UOIT would strike back one minute later as Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.) recorded her eighth of the year. Henderson was on attack all night as she had a game-high five shots on target.
It took almost an hour for the next goal to be scored but Nicole Zajac (Mississauga, Ont.) would finally break the deadlock.
The Ridgebacks would shut the door on Queen's for the remaining 25 minutes holding the Gaels to just two shots in the second half.
Helen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.) made two saves in the win while Madison Tyrell had 10 for Queen's in the losing effort.
UOIT (11-2-1) is four points ahead of Ottawa (9-0-3) for first place in the OUA eastern conference with the Gee-Gees having two games in hand. The Ridgebacks will be back in Kingston on Sunday to take on RMC while Ottawa meets up with Nipissing and Laurentian on the road.
