The Marauders rode the ground game early to grab a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, as Chris Pezzetta and Jordan Lyons kept the chains moving, allowing Asher Hastings to be very selective about his pass attempts. Pezzetta scored the opening major on a two-yard plunge and Hastings hit Dan Petermann for a four-yard strike to grab the early lead.
Playing with the wind in the second quarter, McMaster was able to keep the Warriors penned up deep in their own end. A big interception return by Mitch Garland allowed Pezzetta to score his second touchdown from a yard out, and a late scoring toss to Max Cameron from Hastings gave the Maroon a 30-0 advantage heading into the intermission.
With the weather making things tough on both teams, the third quarter highlight saw Mac kicker Adam Preocanin drill a 49-yard field goal with the wind at his back.
McMaster was able to give the back-ups substantial reps in the second half and was content to primarily run the ball to keep the clock moving toward the final whistle.
The Marauder defense picked off five interceptions on the day with Garland grabbing two, while Eric Blake, Alec Robertson and Ben Cross all snagged errant Waterloo throws.
The Marauders will now enter their bye week and get ready for the big Homecoming clash with the Guelph Gryphons on October 1st at Ron Joyce Stadium.
Homecoming tickets can be purchased online at marauders.ca and Mac students can get tickets at the Compass information desk in the Student Centre.
