Blues drop home opener to No. 6 ranked Ravens

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team dropped a 65-7 decision to the No. 6 nationally ranked Carleton Ravens on Saturday, September 10 at Varsity Stadium.
Rookie defensive back Jamal Johnson scored U of T's lone touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Toronto native picked off Ravens quarterback Tanner DeJong and ran it 85 yards into the end zone.
Second-year defensive back Nick Hallett led the Blues with eight tackles, while third-year linebacker Micahel Leslie notched six tackles in the loss.
Third-year running back Alex Malone led the Blues offensively, rushing 16 times for 116 yards.
Carleton quarterback Jesse Mills went 24-for-30 for 319 yards and four touchdowns. Fourth-year receiver Nathaniel Behar made eight receptions for 129 yards and three touchdowns, while Kyle VanWynsberghe also made eight receptions for 121 yards. Jayde Rowe led the Ravens on the ground with 15 rushes for 112 yards and 1 major. Leon Cenerini led all players with 8.5 tackles in the win.
Tunde Adeleke opened the scoring late in the first quarter, returning a Toronto punt 77 yards for the major. The fourth-year defensive back struck again early in the fourth quarter, returning another punt 69 yards for his second TD of the game.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, September 17 when they host the York Lions in the 47th annual Red & Blue Bowl at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale here.
GAME NOTES: The Varsity Blues celebrated their four national and 10 provincial 2015-16 championship teams, as well as Olympians Gabriela Stafford, bronze medalist Kylie Masse and Donna Vakalis, at halftime.
