Lancers close out 2015 with win over Waterloo
The Lancer Football program closed out the 2015 season with a convincing 44-14 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday at Alumni Field.
The Lancer Football program closed out the 2015 season with a convincing 44-14 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday at Alumni Field.
The Blue & Gold finished the season with a 2-6 record while the Warriors closed out the year with an 0-8 record. Neither team advances to the post season.
Lancer quarterback Casey Wright finished the game with 254 yards and three touchdowns. Wright connected with Nate O'Halloran twice, who finished the game with 84 yards in the air and two TDs. Tarrence Crawford led the Lancers on the ground with 78 yards and one touchdown.
Windsor opened up the scoring ten minutes into the game with a 5 yard run from Tarrence Crawford. Anthony Malandruccolo followed up with a pair of 25-yard & 28-yard field goals and the Warriors conceded a safety late in the quarter to give Windsor a 15-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
A Waterloo rouge from Caleb Girard put Waterloo on the board two minutes into the second quarter. Five minutes later, defensive back Matt Gayer returned a 35 yard interception for his first OUA touchdown before O'Halloran caught his first from Wright to give Windsor a 29-4 lead. Girard closed out the first half with a 33-yard field goal on the final play of the second quarter. The Lancer led 29-4 at halftime.
After conceding a safety to the Warriors, O'Halloran and Wright connected again this time with a 16-yard pass to increase the Lancer lead to 30 points. Windsor's other scoring play came off a 67-yard pass from Wright to Nick Vincent 45 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Prior to the game the Lancers honoured their graduating seniors and also paid tribute to long time Lancer equipment technician Rick Mallat who will retire this coming May after 42 years with the Lancers.
