Hastings throws four touchdowns to match Mac record, Marauders beat Lancers 44-19
A sparkling first half performance helped quarterback Asher Hastings tie McMaster's single season touchdown record, as he finished with four majors and the Marauders cruised to a 44-19 victory over the Lancers in Windsor.
A sparkling first half performance helped quarterback Asher Hastings tie McMaster's single season touchdown record, as he finished with four majors and the Marauders cruised to a 44-19 victory over the Lancers in Windsor.
Hastings matched the record of 21 set by Marshall Ferguson in 2013 when he completed his fourth touchdown of the day to Max Cameron in the fourth quarter. He finished the day with 374 yards and no interceptions, after completing 16 of 17 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns in a dominant opening half.
Two Marauder receivers — Dan Petermann and Danny Vandervoort — eclipsed the 100-yard mark on Saturday, with Petermann bringing in nine catches for 162 yards and Vandervoort racking up 102 yards on four receptions while adding another touchdown to his total on the season.
After claiming Mac's first two touchdowns of the game, Wayne Moore finished with 69 yards on 15 carries, while rookie Jordan Lyons added 66.
The first scoring drive of the game went to Windsor, with kicker Malandruccolo hitting a 37-yard field goal to cap an eight-play, 40-yard drive.
But McMaster's offence roared to life immediately thereafter, and would answer with 28 consecutive points to put the Marauders firmly in the driver's seat after Vandervoort hauled in a 28-yard major — Hastings' second of the half.
His torrid pace continued, as Hastings tied the record by finding Mitch O'Connor in the back of the endzone for an 18-yard touchdown with 2:16 to play, capping one of the most effective periods of play that his offence has enjoyed in 2015.
A disjointed start to the second half saw Mac fail to score in the third quarter, and Windsor showed a measure of resistance when Nate O'Halloran reeled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Liam Putt to bring the Lancers within 18 points at 35-17.
Not finished just yet, Hastings notched his fourth touchdown with 9:36 to play, when Cameron beat the Windsor coverage through the middle and caught a 24-yard pass.
