Five OUA standouts on second CFL Top-20 prospect list

OTTAWA (CIS) – Daryl Waud, a defensive tackle from Western University, is the top-ranked CIS player on the second prospect list released by the CFL's Scouting Bureau in advance of the league's 2015 Canadian Draft.

The Scouting Bureau list was expanded from 15 to 20 prospects this year and 15 CIS standouts found their way on the second ranking of the season, one more than in September. Powerhouses Calgary and Laval once again lead the way with four and three selections, respectively.

Waud, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound senior who was named a first-team all-Canadian in his fourth campaign with the Mustangs, moves up two positions to No. 3 on the new Bureau list to replace Manitoba slotback Nic Demski as the top-ranked CIS prospect. Demski drops two spots to No. 5 on the December list.

The other CIS stars included on the new list are Calgary centre Sean McEwen (No. 6 / up eight positions), Calgary guard Sukh Chungh (No. 7 / up one), Laval offensive lineman Danny Groulx (No. 8 / down four), Regina wide receiver Addison Richards (No. 9 / up two), McMaster linebacker Nicholas Shortill (No. 11 / up four), Wilfrid Laurier defensive back Chris Ackie (No. 12 / no change), Laval offensive tackle Karl Lavoie (No. 14 / up two), Laval defensive tackle Brandon Tennant (No. 15 / down two), Calgary linebacker Adam Konar (No. 16 / previously unranked), Montreal linebacker Byron Archambault (No. 17 / previously unranked), Laurier defensive end Ese Mrabure-Ajufo (No. 18 / down one), Calgary receiver Jake Harty (No. 19 / no change) and Ottawa defensive tackle Ettore Lattanzio (No. 20 / previously unranked).

Last May, Laval centre Pierre Lavertu became the eighth CIS player in as many years – and the 12th in the past 15 years - to be selected first overall in the CFL Canadian Draft when the Calgary Stampeders called his name at No. 1. He was ranked fourth, second and third, respectively, on the three Scouting Bureau lists published in 2013-14.

A record 59 CIS players (out of 65 total picks) were selected in the 2014 CFL Draft, including eight in the first round, also an all-time mark for CIS (tied with 1970 and 1972).

NOTES: The Scouting Bureau is comprised of CFL scouts, player personnel directors and general managers from the league's nine teams... Another player with ties to CIS is on the second 2014-15 prospect list. Running back Tyler Varga, ranked No. 4 after debuting at No. 2 in September, was named the CIS rookie of the year with Western in 2011 before transferring to Yale in the NCAA.
