OUA partners with Stretch Internet to Launch OUA.tv
May 21, 2014
HAMILTON - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced on May 21, 2014 a partnership with Stretch Internet to launch OUA.tv, the official home of web-based broadcasting for all 20 member institutions during the 2014-15 season and beyond.
Beginning in September, OUA.tv will broadcast all regular season and post-season basketball and football games during its inaugural season with other sports added in future years. As a bonus, the OUA will broadcast championships on OUA.tv including volleyball, rugby, soccer, and more. Additionally, OUA member schools may choose to stream other OUA sports though the OUA.tv platform in its first season.
“OUA.tv will connect our fans to our players, teams and schools like never before giving them unprecedented coverage from the first kickoff to the last free throw of the season,” said Bryan Crawford, Executive Director of the OUA. “We are truly thrilled with this partnership with Stretch Internet. Having all the OUA webcast events within a single portal will allow our fans to experience our sports on any device while giving them access to the content they want when they want it.”.
Live and on-demand video of all streamed games will be available online as well as internet enabled streaming devices such as iOS and Android mobile phones and tablets. Additionally, users will be able to view streams on TVs through indirect integration with Apple TV, Google Chromecast and many Smart TVs.
One of the largest streaming media specialists in the sports industry, Stretch Internet has a wealth of experience streaming university sport having already partnered with the Canada West Universities Athletic Association in 2011 and the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) in 2013.
"It's an exciting time for both the OUA and Stretch Internet," said Stretch Internet president and CEO Ryan Ermeling. "With the roll-out of our new GameCentral 2.0 platform, OUA.tv is going to be uniquely situated to provide an incredible and immersive experience for the OUA institutions and their fans. Since our first interactions with the OUA, we've been incredibly impressed with their focus on quality and excellence, and we're thrilled to help them elevate their digital platform."
In addition to live coverage of all OUA football, basketball and championships, OUA.tv also includes a live scoreboard and statistics in the same window - truly creating a one-stop platform to follow OUA teams in action. All broadcasts will feature play-by-play and colour commentary and be archived and available on demand immediately following the conclusion of the event.
All content on OUA.tv will be delivered free with select games featuring live blog and chat capabilities.
The first official broadcast of OUA.tv will come on September 1st, 2014 with the kickoff of the 2014 OUA football seasons. That day will feature five games with 10 of the 11 OUA football squads in action across the province.
