Nassar, Baronaitis and Charette named OUA football players of the week

HAMILTON, Ont. – The following student-athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 29, 2013.
OFFENCE: Simon Nassar, University of Toronto Varsity Blues, Quarterback
Third-year quarterback Simon Nassar completed 26-of-39 passes for 343 yards and four touchdowns leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues a convincing 50-10 victory over the Carleton Ravens on Friday night. The Toronto native threw for a game-long 47-yard completion on Toronto’s first play of the game, 149 yards in the first quarter and capped it off with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Alex Pierzchalski. A fourth-year English major, Nassar went onto find Pierzchalski two more times and rookie Llevi Noel once in the end zone en route to the dominant victory.
DEFENCE: Justin Baronaitis, Queen's University Gaels, Defensive Back
Justin Baronaitis (Rexdale, Ont.) was a terror on the field during Saturday’s 50-31 loss to Western. Baronaitis finished with 11.5 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass making his presence felt in London. His 11.5 tackles led all players in the game and he now has 31.5 tackles on the season.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Alex Charette, University of Guelph Gryphons, Receiver
Alex Charette (St. Catharine’s, Ont.) amassed 211 all-purpose yards in Guelphs’ 41-19 victory over Waterloo on Saturday. The 6-foot-1 receiver put together a game-changing field goal return of 125 yards for a touchdown with two minutes remaining in the first half. In addition to being a starting receiver who caught four passes for 42 yards, the speedster tallied punt returns for 15 yards and one kickoff return for 29 yards.
