Four teams march on with clean records after day two curling action
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Four teams remain undefeated after eight draws at the OUA Curling Championships, being held at the Community First Curling Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Carleton Ravens and Western Mustangs remain on top of the men’s leader boards at 4-0 apiece, while the Queen’s Gaels and Guelph Gryphons reign unbeaten for the women with 4 wins and 3 wins, respectively.
Competition will heat up tomorrow as each team vies for a berth in the finals, which begin Sunday evening at 7:00pm. The Ravens men will look to hold onto their perfect record in Draw 10 when they take on the Brock Badgers, who are currently 3-1 in Pool A. The Western men will look to do the same in their only match tomorrow against the Varsity Blues, who are 2-2 in Pool B.
On the women’s side, Queen’s is looking to breeze past the Varsity Blues (3-1) and the Lakehead Thunderwolves (2-2). Guelph will take on the reigning OUA Championships, the Laurentian Voyageurs, who are 2-1. The Voyageurs were handed their first loss of the tournament today by the Carleton Ravens (3-1).
After opening the tournament hot yesterday, both Algoma teams have fallen into a slump, being handed two losses on day two. Both teams are currently 1-3. Algoma will look to snap their losing streak in winnable games against the Trent Excalibur and Waterloo Warriors.
Draw 9 continues on Saturday morning at 9:00am.
