ST. CATHARINES, ON - Brock University Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the addition of Marc LePage as the new head coach for the Brock Baseball program. He takes over for Jeff Lounsbury who retired after 20 seasons at the helm.
"Marc has served as a long-time contributor to the Brock baseball and has been instrumental in our overall success as a program. He is the perfect fit to take over as our new head coach," said Brock Director of Athletics and Recreation Neil Lumsden. "Marc has a passion for baseball and will continue the tradition that has been built here over the past 20 years."
Marc began as an assistant coach with the Brock program from 1995-99, where he was part of two CIBA National Championships in 1998 and 1999.
"I am proud of this program as an alumnus and I want to give back and provide the student-athlete with a memorable experience here at Brock University," said head coach Marc LePage. "I really want our student-athletes to be accessible and involved within the community. We want our program to be recognized as a center of excellence, a team the community, the school and alumni will be proud of. We need to create a positive environment for our athletes by ensuring that we are aligned with the vision and values of Brock Athletics and Brock University."
In 2000, he left Brock and took over the head coaching duties at the University of Guelph. LePage coached the Gryphons for two seasons, leading them to the CIBA finals for the first time in the program's history.
During his 20 seasons an assistant coach at Brock, the talented hitting instructor, has helped in the development of some of the top players in the programs history, highlighted by Andrew Tinnish (Toronto Blue Jays Vice-President, Player Development and Brock All-Time leading hitter), Shaun Valeriote (Two-time OUA Top Hitter and first OUA player to be drafted by a Major League Baseball team) and most recently back-to-back OUA Top Hitter Justin Gideon, who returns for his fourth season this fall.
The Brock baseball program has been one of the top program's in Canada for the past 20 years capturing two CIBA National Championships and four OUA Championships.
Brock will play four games as part of their annual spring schedule matching up against the Guelph Gryphons on April 30 (12:30 PM) and closing out the season with the first annual Red-White (Split-Squad) game on May 1 (12:30 PM). Both games will be played at George Taylor Field in St. Catharines, Ontario.
