HAMILTON, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (17-1 OUA, 29-3 overall) defeated the Waterloo Warriors by the score of 6-1 to advance to the OUA Championship Final Sunday morning at Bernie Arbour Stadium in Hamilton.
Waterloo jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
That lead would be short lived, as 2014 OUA Top Hitter Justin Gideon belted his second three-run homerun of the OUA Championships in the bottom of the first to put the Badgers up 3-1.
In the bottom of the third, Phil Steer led off with a single, and stole second and third. Ricky Ferri then drove in Steer for his 100th career RBI giving Brock a 4-1 lead. In the fourth, Wil Nicholson drove in Ben Kirby with a sacrifice fly to left field. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Koddi Quick would give the Badgers an insurance run with an RBI single to right for the 6-1 lead.
After giving up a run on two hits in the top of the first, Badgers rookie starter Dylan Perego would settle down going the distance allowing one run on five hits while striking out two for the complete game victory.
