Brock ends regular season with 17-1 record after 5-4 win over Queen's
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (27-3 overall, 17-1 OUA) ended the OUA regular season with a 5-4 victory over the Queen's Gaels Wednesday night at George Taylor Field. The Badgers now advance to the OUA Championships being hosted by McMaster University next weekend.
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (27-3 overall, 17-1 OUA) ended the OUA regular season with a 5-4 victory over the Queen's Gaels Wednesday night at George Taylor Field. The Badgers now advance to the OUA Championships being hosted by McMaster University next weekend.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Badgers Justin Gideon, ended one of the top individual offensive seasons in OUA baseball history with a walk-off homerun for the victory. He finished the night going 2-for-3 with a RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
In 2014, Gideon currently leads the OUA in eight offensive categories; Runs (22), Hits (30), Triples (5), Total bases (52), Stolen Bases (18), Batting Average (.469), On Base Percentage (.514) and Slugging Percentage (.812). He also hit safely in 17 of 18 OUA regular season contests including eight multiple hit performances.
Ricky Ferri (2-for-4) and Ben Kirby (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) both contributed with two hits each. Dan Nicoletta (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Koddi Quick (1-for-2, RBI) rounded out the Badgers offense.
The Badgers used six pitchers in total with Brendan Ellingham, Luke Melmyk, Frederick Rioux, Matthew Watson and Jeffrey Baggaley all throwing shutout innings. Baggaley picked up the victory. Daniel Veres struggled with his control allowing four runs on seven walks and one strikeout.
