McFetridge and Van Pelt named Pioneer Energy OUA athletes of the week

HAMILTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Pioneer Energy Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for the period ending September 29, 2013.
Each Pioneer Energy OUA Athlete of the Week will receive a gift card and a dri-fit T-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Energy.
FEMALE: Chantal McFetridge, University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, Soccer
Chantal McFetridge scored three goals for the No. 1 Ottawa Gee-Gees over the weekend en route to a pair of wins over Laurentian and Nipissing. The Kelowna, B.C., native scored two goals in a 4-2 win over Laurentian on Saturday and added one in a 9-1 rout against the Nipissing Lakers. A versatile player, McFetridge was moved from the back third to midfield after a teammate was injured. She has five goals in her first season with the Gee-Gees.
MALE: Brett Van Pelt, Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks, Baseball
Starting pitcher Brett Van Pelt of Whitby, Ont., continued to dominate OUA hitters over the weekend, pitching a 9-0 shutout against McMaster. He pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout while striking out 10 Marauder hitters. The performance was his third complete game in three starts and lowered his ERA to 1.42, second best in the conference. Van Pelt’s 10 strikeouts raise his season total to 26, which is tied for first in the OUA with teammate Jordan Petruska.
