WATERLOO, Ont. (September 28, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's baseball team celebrated Homecoming in grand fashion as they took both games against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday.
Game one was all about pitcher Brett Van Pelt. Van Pelt was virtually untouchable the entire game as he faced only two hitters over the minimum and allowed just one hit in the complete game shutout. Van Pelt reached double digits in strikeouts, issuing 10 for the game while walking only one. The Laurier bats took a while to get going scoring one in the 4th and two in the 5th before exploding for six runs in the 6th. Laurier was helped with five walks in the 5th inning.
From the end of game one, the Laurier bats continued to stay hot through the beginning of game two.
Laurier scored three runs in the 1st and one in the 2nd. With the score sitting at 5-3 in the 5th inning, designated hitter Alex Kupchak stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a no-doubt grand slam to left-center field. Laurier never looked back from there taking the game 13-3 in six innings.
