83 – Points for the Western Mustangs in an 83-27 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Western put on an offensive clinic and finished three points shy of tying the school record for single game points (86) and seven shy of tying the CIS record (90). The ‘Stangs are hummin’ this season, averaging 65.5 points and 678.5 yards per game. Greg Marshall’s squad has scored 50, 71, 58 and 83 points in four games against Toronto, Carleton, McMaster and Ottawa. At their current rate, Western is on pace to demolish the OUA regular season point record (424 points) – a record that has stood since McMaster’s dominant 2003 season. Western draws 1-3 Laurier on Saturday.
11 – Goals for the Ottawa Gee-Gees women’s soccer team on Sunday. The Gee-Gees showed no mercy to Trent, beating the Excalibur 11-0. Fifth-year striker Krista Draycott (Ottawa) led the way with four goals, but more impressively, all four of Draycott’s goals came in the first 37 minutes. It was a tough spot for the Excalibur who lost starting keeper Emily Webb (Peterborough, Ont.) to injury the day before. Ottawa are currently the top ranked team in Canada.
5 – Wins in a row for the Waterloo Warriors baseball team. The Warriors swept their weekend action against the Ryerson Rams and McMaster Marauders and currently sit a half game back of the Brock Badgers for first in OUA. Third-year outfielder Chris Ryan (Waterloo, Ont.) was a force for the Warriors, batting 7-15 (.467) with five RBI over the weekend.
1 – Win for the Laurentian women’s hockey team. The Voyageurs recorded their first win of their inaugural season, beating the Ryerson Rams 3-2 in exhibition action Saturday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Lauren Langille tipped home the game-winner at 15:47 of the third period and Laura Deller turned aside shots for the win.
180 – Yards for Western RB Garret Sanvido (Vancouver) on Saturday. Sanvido torched the Gee-Gees defence for 180 yards and two scores during Saturday’s blowout. The third-year back carried the ball 12 times averaging 15 yards per carry with a long of 64 yards. Last year’s CIS rushing leader is currently the OUA rushing leader with 471 yards through four games.
12 – Goals in three games for Varsity Blues lacrosse player Sarah Jamieson. Jamieson, a rookie midfielder, started her OUA career in style, netting 16 points in three weekend games. The Etobicoke, Ont., native scored a hat trick and an assist in her first two games (against York and McMaster) before scoring six goals and two assists in Toronto’s narrow loss to Western.
