Ridgebacks unbeaten streak ended by No. 9 Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. - Undefeated through nine matches, the UOIT Ridgebacks women's soccer team had their incredible streak ended by the No. 9 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels on Sunday afternoon following a 2-0 road loss.

UOIT and Queen's exchanged chances early. First, Gaels keeper Anna Stephenson made a seventh minute save on Ridgebacks Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.), followed by a stop from UOIT's Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.) on the other end from a Sarah Nixon shot.

Trouble struck early when UOIT striker Henderson required a 29th minute substitution.

Losing a dynamic presence up front, action shifted to the Ridgebacks side of the pitch where Queen's forward Jenny Wolever scored the game-winning goal in the 41st minute.

In the second half, UOIT was outshot by the Gaels 7-0. Wolever scored her second goal of the game in the 90th minute to secure the home victory.

Playing in her second match of the season, following her return to net the day prior, Savage ended the afternoon with six saves.

The Ridgebacks are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 13 traveling to the nation's capital to challenge the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
