Ridgebacks upset Warriors in third straight victory

WATERLOO, Ont. – Alex Frigon's (Dartmouth, N.S.) goal with 17 seconds remaining was a heartbreaker for the Waterloo Warriors as the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks picked up the 5-4 upset win on Saturday afternoon.
 
Going into the game the Warriors were second in the OUA, battling to earn home ice for the playoffs, but the Ridgebacks played spoiler, going back-and-forth with the Warriors all game.
 
Down early, they went ahead 3-2 and 4-3, before ultimately winning the game late.
 
The Ridgebacks now return home for their final weekend at the Campus Ice Centre as they host Windsor and Western. Their final game of the year is February 12 at Guelph.
  Mia Rogers (Keswick, Ont.) scored at the 14:55 mark of the first to nullify Courtney Simpson's goal for the Warriors.
• Emma Pye scored her first of two goals in the game to give Waterloo their final lead of the game 7:01 into the second period.
Katie Heath (Elora, Ont.) then scored the first of her two goals to tie the game 2-2 just two minutes later. She also scored the go-ahead goal to make it 4-3 in the third.
Brooklyn Duff (Smithville, Ont.) scored the third goal for Ontario Tech, giving them their first lead of the game.
Alex Frigon picked up the game-winning goal after Mikayla Schnarr couldn't corral the initial shot and she was able to bang in the rebound.   Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) made 29 saves in the win.
• Mikayla Schnarr made 26 saves in the loss for Waterloo.
