OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's basketball team was on the brink of their first victory on Monday afternoon, but ultimately fell to 75-70 to the Algoma Thunderbirds.
Vanessa Budimunda (Montreal, Que.) finished on a last-second layup to tie the game 63-63 and send it to overtime.
This is the first time in program history the Ridgebacks have gone to overtime and the second game at home they have narrowly won in the final minutes of play.
Next weekend will be a tough stretch for Ontario Tech as they face the nationally ranked Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees in the nation's capital.

Dalyssa Fleurgin (Montreal, Que.) finished with a game-high 24 points to lead the Ridgebacks offence.

Hadeza Ismaila (Ottawa, Ont.) was the only other Ridgeback in double-digit scoring with 10 points.
• Algoma relied on Karly Fracalanza and Dionne Martin to lead their offence with 24 and 18 points respectively.
• Karly Fracalanza had a game-high eight rebounds for Algoma.
