OSHAWA, Ont. – After a positive result on Saturday at home, the UOIT women's soccer team's struggles returned on Sunday against the first-place Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Emma Lefebvre was too much for the Ridgebacks, scoring four times for Ottawa, who walked away with the 4-1 victory.
Lefebvre opened the scoring in the 12
th minute, following that with her second of the match at the 28
th minute.
At halftime the score was 2-0, but Ottawa had taken 15 shots to UOIT's three.
Olivia Tierney (King City, Ont.) had eight saves in the opening 45 minutes for the Ridgbeacks.
Margot Shore made one save in the first half before being replaced by Hillary Damman at the break.
In the second half, Lefebvre picked up where she left off, scoring just two minutes in.
While making a play on a shot from outside the box in the 54
th minute, Tierney collided with a player and went down, forcing her to leave the match. With backup keeper
Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.) also sidelined,
Alexis Kirton (Pickering, Ont.) was forced to step in goal for UOIT.
It looked bleak in that moment, but the Ridgebacks got a spark in the 65
th minute when
Katherine Koehler-Grassau (Greely, Ont.) finished on a great pass by
Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.) to cut the lead to two.
Unfortunately, that bright spot was diminished again by an 81
st minute goal by Lefebvre.
With the victory, Ottawa moved to 3-0-1 on the season atop the OUA east. UOIT sits in the middle of the pack at 1-3-0.
Overall Record: 2-4-0 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 1-3-0
Next match: CAMPUS CUP – Tuesday, Sept. 4 vs. Durham College (8 p.m. – Vaso's Field)
