KINGSTON, Ont. – A 13
th minute goal by
Melanie Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ont.) was all it took for the UOIT women's soccer team to push their point streak to eight.
Hoekstra's goal also had some personal significance for her as it was her first goal as a Ridgeback. In eight games this season she has two assists and a goal.
The 1-0 victory over the RMC Paladins also means the Ridgebacks are now tied for second in the OUA east with the Queen's Gaels – setting up an important match on Sunday afternoon in Kingston with the rival Gaels.
Despite the close result on the scoreboard against the Paladins, UOIT outshot RMC 14-6 in the match and had the only two corner kicks.
Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.) returned to the goal for UOIT, making three saves in her first win and clean sheet for the Ridgebacks this season. At the opposite end of the pitch, Claudia Rusu made four saves in the Paladins loss.
Kick off against the Gaels on Sunday is 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium.
