MONTREAL, Que. – Playing in their first overtime action this season in Montreal, the Ontario Tech University men's hockey team ended up on the wrong side of a 4-3 final against McGill University.
McGill ousted Ontario Tech last season in their two-game playoff series and the Ridgebacks entered Friday night action looking for some revenge. The game started positive for the visitors as they jumped out to an early two-goal lead just over seven minutes into the opening frame.
The teams traded a pair of goals during the second, with Ontario Tech holding a 3-1 advantage heading into the third period. The Ridgebacks held the lead with a strong defensive effort but a pair of goals in the final two minutes of regulation by the home side sent the game to an extra frame. McGill controlled much of the 3-on-3 action and were rewarded late with the winner.
Ontario Tech remains in Montreal and resume action tomorrow when they face the Concordia Stingers for the team's second meeting of the season.
