OSHAWA, Ont. – After a tough loss to the Ryerson Rams Saturday afternoon the UOIT women's hockey team will walk away with three points and a split weekend.
With three quick goals from Ryerson coming in the first period, it was hard for the Ridgebacks to recover. The first goal came just 1:28 into the game, shortly after the Rams banked in their second at the 3:12 mark. The Rams were then able to capitalize on a power play, giving them three goals heading into the second period.
The Ridgebacks tried to build some momentum late in the first period as
Jamie Bulleid (Waterdown, Ont.) fired home a goal to put them on the board nearing the end of the frame. Unfortunately, the lone goal from Bulleid did not translate momentum heading into the second as the Ridgebacks would allow another two goals and later fall 5-1 to the Rams.
All 50/50 proceeds from Saturday's game went towards the poppy fund, which saw a total of $72 raised.
The Ridgebacks look to bounce back next weekend when they head to North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers.
• Third-year forward, Lauren Nicholson, opened the scoring for Ryerson at the 1:28 mark, recording her fourth of the season. Karli Nummikoski, netted the Rams second goal shortly after to give them an early 2-0 lead.
• Brooklyn Gemmill got the Rams third goal when she tipped in a strong slap shot from the blue line by defenceman Mariah Hinds.
•
Jamie Bulleid scored the Ridgebacks lone goal when she snuck in a wrist shot that trickled past the goaltender.
• Rams fourth-year forward, Kryshanda Green, walked in from the blue line and fired off a shot that beat the goalie glove side to give them their fourth goal.
• The Rams fifth and final goal came from first-year forward, Avery Horlcok, who received a pass out front and riffled it top shelf, recording her first OUA goal.
•
Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) got the start for the Ridgebacks, making a total of 34 saves.
• Natalie Thompson earned the win for the Rams making a total of 19 saves.
