NORTH BAY, Ont. – Despite pushing the second-place Nipissing Lakers to overtime earlier this season in Oshawa, the UOIT women's hockey team had little to cheer about on Saturday night as they were shutout 5-0 by the Lakers.
Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.) lost her first game of the season in goal for the Ridgebacks, while the Ridgebacks offence struggled – most notably going 0-for-5 on the power play.
They will have a chance to end the weekend on a positive note on Sunday afternoon when they battle the Laurentian Voyageurs at 2 p.m. in Sudbury.
Their next home game isn't until the new year as they end 2018 on the road.
• Jetta Derenoski had a hat-trick for the Lakers, while Hunter Mosher and Marilyn Fortin rounded out their scoring.
• Vial made 26 saves for the Ridgebacks in her first OUA loss.
• At the opposite end of the ice Danika Ranger made 22 saves earn the shutout for Nipissing.
