Early offence propels Ridgebacks to weekend sweep

OSHAWA, Ont. – History was made when Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) scored just 16 seconds into the game, marking the fastest goal in Ridgebacks hockey history, propelling the Ontario Tech University men's hockey team to a 5-2 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs.

After claiming a big victory the night before, over the same Voyageurs, the Ridgebacks' offence came out humming, scoring four goals within the first 12 minutes of play. With both Bricknell and Tyson McConnell (Pilot Mound, Man.), who netted his first career OUA goal, each scoring twice in an early onslaught.

Although the home team experienced a lull in their offence, they showed great defence and a strong effort from Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) helped keep the Voyageurs from gaining to much momentum.

The Ridgebacks will wrap up their 2019-20 home schedule next Wednesday night, when they host the RMC Paladins, which will be a crucial match up with playoff implications.
  • Bricknell opened the scoring after knocking home a loose puck in the crease. The second year forward then fired home a perfect shot on the power play to give the Ridgebacks a 2-0 lead just 6:31 into the game.
McConnell potted his first career OUA goal just over 30 seconds after the 2-0 marker, burying the slot shot after a nice pass from Jack Patterson (Bedford, N.S.).
• McConnell deflected home his second of the game at the 11:16 mark, again taking the pass from Patterson.
• Xavier Couture got the visitors on the board just 2:30 after the 4-0 goal. Noah Kalsner-Lowe cut the Ridgebacks lead in half, 4-2, 9:24 into the second period.
Nicolas Tardif (Chelsea, Que.) sealed the victory 5-2 with just 6:12 left in regulation.   Michael Bullion had 29 saves to pick up the win.
• Nick Donofrio stopped 37 of 42 shots in the loss.
