PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The UOIT Ridgebacks men's soccer team earned their first win of the season, shutting out the Trent Excalibur 1-0 on Wednesday night in Peterborough.

UOIT entered the contest well rested, playing their last game 10 days prior to the midweek matchup. The break proved vital as the Ridgebacks were able to outlast the Excalibur throughout the 90 minutes, tying in shots with Trent 9-9.

Following a scoreless first half, the Ridgebacks broke through in the 47th minute courtesy the strike of second-year defender
Quintyn Walcott (Bridgetown, Barbados).

After securing the lead, UOIT closed the door on the Excalibur as third-year goalkeeper
Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) finished the night with nine saves in his first clean sheet of the season. Trent keeper Zachary Silva recorded eight on the evening.

The Ridgebacks will look to make it two in a row this Sunday, Sept. 23 as they continue their road swing, challenging the RMC Paladins in Kingston. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
