Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | UOIT Sports Information

Late goal earns Ridgebacks single point against Ravens

OTTAWA, Ont. – Despite largely outshooting the Carleton Ravens on Sunday afternoon, the UOIT women's soccer team was unable to pick up three points in the nation's capital.

In the first half the Ravens had four shots on goal, just one more than the Ridgebacks, but it made the difference as Ghalida Hammada put Carleton up 1-0 after 45 minutes.

It wasn't until the 83rd minute that UOIT was able to break through the Carleton back line, with Melanie Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ont.) evening the match at a goal apiece.

Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.) earned the draw for UOIT, making four saves. At the opposite end of the pitch Sophie Ehlebracht made 12 saves for Carleton.

With one game remaining in conference play against the Trent Excalibur at home on Saturday, the Ridgebacks will need some help to ensure they host a home playoff match.

Currently in fourth in the OUA east – the final spot guaranteeing a home playoff match – the Ridgebacks are only one point up on the Ravens who have a game in hand and play the second-place Queen's Gaels and last place RMC Paladins next weekend.

Regardless of UOIT's result, a pair of wins by Carleton would see them leapfrog the Ridgebacks on the table, making the final weekend of OUA women's soccer all the more interesting as the Ridgebacks may have to wait for Sunday's result between RMC and Carleton to know where they will finish.
  Overall Record: 8-6-3 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 7-5-3

Next match: Saturday, Oct. 20 vs. Trent Excalibur • 1 p.m. – Vaso's Field
