WHKY | Voyageurs Edge Rival Lakers

The Laurentian Voyageurs women played an exciting game against the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night.

A home game was on the schedule for the Lakers in hopes for them to improve their current 0-2 record at home but the Vees did not shy away.

With ten minutes gone in the first period, the goal light had stayed silent but Morgan McCann, the Voyageurs assistant captain, took charge and scored the opening goal. McCann opened the scoring and as well added her first 2018 season goal with the help of Regan Toltesi getting her second point of the year.

The Lakers only managed to put up one goal against the Vees Shanna Dolighan and it took place in the second period. Maria Dominco would take the credit for the goal and her teammate Jetta Deroniski would be credited the assist. A crucial goal for the Lakers as this would be the only goal for the Lakers and as well the goal that tied both teams.

The third period was tense and kept all fans on edge as both teams had many opportunities and as well were both awarded power plays. Laurentian was able to score the go ahead goal thanks to Gabby Jex who scored both a well timed power play goal and her first ever OUA goal. With the help of Carly Olivier, Jex had put her team ahead in the third period.

The Voyageurs have a week to recover and plan ahead for their upcoming game next Friday when they visit the Brock Badgers, who are currently 2-1 in the 2018 season.
