Eastman’s overtime winner lifts Ridgebacks to victory

KINGSTON, Ont. – Three unanswered goals help the Ontario Tech University men's hockey team top the Queen's Gaels 4-3 in overtime Friday night.

The line of Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.), Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) and Brennan Roy (Iroquois Falls, Ont.) maintain their recent hot streak, combining for eight points against the Gaels. It was Eastman who opened and finished the game's scoring as he continues to build on a solid sophomore season now with 12 goals.

After taking an early lead the Ridgebacks allowed three straight goals by the Gaels before Bricknell's late second period marker. It was the captain Alex Yuill (Wellington, Ont.) tying the game on a power play within the first 10 minutes of the final frame, which allowed for Eastman's overtime winner.

The Ridgebacks now make a second trip to Montreal next weekend to wrap up the season, starting with a tilt against Concordia next Friday night.
  • Eastman found himself in the perfect spot to tap home a Bricknell wraparound attempt to open the scoring for the Ridgebacks just 5:57 into the game. The second year forward then collected a loose puck in the high slot before firing home the game winner 3:25 into overtime. • Patrick Sanvido evened the game in the last five minutes (4:06) of the first period.
• Jared Bethune gave the home team the lead just 3:43 into the middle period. Ryan Cranford increased the score to 3-1 with 10:39 left in the second.
• Bricknell took a pass from Eastman at the top of the faceoff circle before firing home his tenth of the year with just 2:11 left on the clock.
• Yuill corralled a rebound on the power play and slid his shot five-hole to even the game 7:02 into the third period.
Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) made 33 saves to improve to 4-1 in the second half.
• Luke Richardson had 31 saves on 35 shots in the loss.
