OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's soccer team held on for a 1-0 victory at home on Wednesday afternoon against the Queen's Gaels to advance to the OUA quarter-final round this weekend.
This marks the third time in the program's 11-year history that the Ridgebacks have advanced past the opening round. Their first opening round win came in 2014 at Carleton, followed by 2017's victory over Laurentian.
Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis (Oshawa, Ont.) scored the game-winning goal in his first playoff match at Ontario Tech. The goal was the third shot on goal in the Queen's six-yard box.
Nicolas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) made four saves in the clean sheet victory. Alex Jones had four stops for Queen's in the loss.
Ontario Tech will now face the Carleton Ravens this weekend in their quarter-final match at MNP Park.
Carleton was the last team the Ridgebacks faced in an OUA quarter-final. This season the Ridgebacks are 0-2-0 against the Ravens, losing 2-1 at home on September 1, followed by a 3-0 loss in Ottawa on September 29.
Game time for the OUA quarter-final is 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 in Ottawa.
