Offence struggles in first Ridgebacks game of the decade

OSHAWA, Ont. – A Friday night match up marked the first game of the decade for the Ridgebacks, as the Ontario Tech University women's hockey team fell 2-0 to the No. 9 ranked Nipissing Lakers.

The Ridgebacks were in tough opening their second half against the nationally-ranked Lakers and looked a step behind early. Displaying great defensive resilience, Ontario Tech was able to keep the game scoreless, before turning the tables and applying their own offensive pressure.

The Lakers struck early in the second period, before doubling their lead just under six minutes later. Ontario Tech had their opportunity gaining a power play just shortly after each of the Lakers goals but were unable to convert.

Ontario Tech has a short turnaround as they welcome the Laurentian Voyageurs to the Campus Ice Centre Saturday afternoon.
  • Katelyn Heppner opened the scoring just 1:09 into the second period firing a shot top shelf.
• Ashley Taciuk gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead at 6:59 of the second when her shot squeaked through and trickled over the line.
Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Ont.) faced 36 shots and stopped 34.
• Danika Ranger had the 19 save shutout.
  Overall Record: 3-15-0
Conference Record: 2-12-0
