Nauboris sets UOIT single-season assist record in Ridgebacks win over Waterloo

OSHAWA, Ont. – Breaking a record that was originally set in 2011-12 by Jill Morillo and Jennifer Daly, women's hockey captain Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) broke UOIT's single-season assist record on Friday night.

More importantly, the Ridgebacks defeated the Waterloo Warriors 4-1 to continue to sit three points back the Brock Badgers for the final playoff spot in the OUA – although the Badgers do have games in hand.

Since Morillo and Daly's record 15 assists in 2011-12, Jaclyn Gibson (2013-14) and Mikaeli Cavell (2016-17) have tied the 15-assist total.

For Nauboris, she also finished with a goal for a three-point game to now have a league-leading 30 on the season. With two regular season games remaining she sits two points back of UOIT's single-season points record (Morillo - 32) and three goals back of the Ridgeback's single-season goal record (Morillo – 17).

With Friday night being the last home game of the season for the Ridgebacks, six graduating seniors were recognized prior to puck drop including: Natasha Tymcio (Caledon, Ont.), Sarah Biesenthal (Chepstow, Ont.), Nauboris, Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.), Mariah Wilson (Cobourg, Ont.) and Tailor Campbell (Palmerston, Ont.).

Brock defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-2 Friday night in St. Catharines and continue to have three games in hand heading into tomorrow's game against the Nipissing Lakers. The Ridgebacks are not in action again until Thursday when they travel to Kingston for an 11:30 a.m. start against the Queen's Gaels.
  • With the quickest goal in UOIT women's hockey history, Mariah Wilson scored just 14 seconds into the game.
Chelsea Ball tallied twice in the game, one of which was the game-winning goal at 17:28 of the second period.
• Nauboris scored her team-leading 14th goal just 4:21 in to the third period, while also assisting on both of Ball's goals.
Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.) made 23 saves in her seventh victory of the season for the Ridgebacks.
• Alysha Letwin made 15 saves on 19 Ridgebacks shots.
