OSHAWA, Ont. - Friday night the Ridgebacks took the ice against the RMC Paladins on a special staff and faculty appreciation night. The back-and-forth affair between the teams was fast paced and highlighted by big saves at each end of the ice.
Although he wasn't the busier netminder of the night,
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) came up with big saves throughout the game. Unfortunately, a tough shot by Paladin's captain, David Savery, in overtime was the difference maker in a 3-2 loss.
A well-played game by both teams saw some undisciplined play as there were three power play goals scored between the two teams. The Ridgebacks opened the scoring midway through the first which seemed to give them the spark they needed. The Paladins were able to answer minutes afterwards on a power play.
The Paladins carried their momentum over to the second period where they capitalized on another power play to take the lead, forcing the Ridgebacks to play a game of catch up. This saw the home team tie the game early in the third, capitalizing on their own power play.
The Ridgebacks will be looking to get back in the win column next Friday night when they hit the ice to take on the uOttawa Gee-Gees. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
•
Malik Johnson (Montreal, Que.) got his sixth goal of the season, winning the battle in front of the net and burying a loose puck to get the Ridgebacks on the board first.
• Rhett Willcox tied the game up for the Paladins, finishing off a nice tic-tac-toe play with the man advantage.
• Cameron Lamport gave the Paladins the go-ahead goal late in the second period where a bouncing puck found him open at the side of the net.
•
Mike Robinson (Stouffville, Ont.) made the quick rush down the right side of the ice, finding
Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) who buried the cross-ice feed for his third of the season.
• David Savery corralled a puck off the side boards, pivoting towards the net he found a hole short side top shelf to give the Paladins the overtime winner.
•
Brendan O'Neill got the start for the Ridgebacks making a total of 22 saves on 25 shots.
• Brad Van Schubert earned the win for the Paladins facing 31 shots and making a total of 29 saves.
