Robinson delivers hat-trick in home victory

OSHAWA, Ont. - Led by a hat-trick from fifth-year veteran forward Mike Robinson (Stouffville, Ont.), the UOIT Ridgebacks men's hockey team picked up two points in a dominating 5-2 win over Nipissing Friday night.

This was the second of four meetings between the two teams, with the Ridgebacks having won both by an identical 5-2 score.

Right from the opening puck drop the Ridgebacks were ready to go, scoring their first two goals less than ten minutes into the opening frame. The Ridgebacks added another goal seven minutes into the second, which turned out to be the eventual game-winner.

UOIT defence played well, keeping Nipissing off of the score sheet until after the midway mark in the second frame.

The Friday night contest also saw the Ridgebacks excel on special teams, capitalizing on two Nipissing penalties, while all together tallying a total of 29 shots on net.

UOIT will look for a weekend sweep as they take on the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday night at the Campus Ice Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with the game also being streamed live on OUA.tv.
Jordan Ross (Kronau, Sask.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks just over six minutes into the first period when he sent a quick shot from a face off past the Lakers goaltender.
• First-year forward Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) scored another quick goal for the Ridgebacks in the first when he sent a backhand shot through a crowd in front of the Nipissing net.
• Robinson recorded his first of three consecutive goals on a power play midway through the second courtesy a slap-shot from the point. His second came with just 12 seconds remaining in the second period with assists from Danny Elser (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Tyler Mayea (Burlington, Ont.). Robinson's hat-trick goal saw him make a dancing move around the last Nipissing defender, leaving him with a clear break to the net where he sniped a shot top shelf to seal the deal for the Ridgebacks.
• Brett Hargrave, a second-year forward for Nipissing, recorded both goals for the Lakers.
Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) is proving to be a standout goaltender for the Ridgebacks as he earned his fourth win of the season, making a total of 21 saves.
• Domenic Graham had the start for Nipissing, earning a total of 24 saves.
  Overall Record: 8-5-1 (W-L-OTL)
Conference Record: 5-4-1

Next Game: Saturday, Nov. 3 vs. Laurentian Voyageurs • 7:30 p.m. – Campus Ice Centre
