OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team earned their second win of the regular season Saturday afternoon when they defeated the York Lions 2-1 during their annual Pink the Rink weekend in support of cancer awareness.
Prior to the game,
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) and
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) were recognized for officially becoming a part of the Ridgebacks 100 Games Club. It only seemed fitting then that Nauboris proved to be the late-game hero in the third period when she scored the game-winning goal with only a minute to spare in regulation.
UOIT is back in action Saturday afternoon when they take on the Queen's Gaels on home ice.
• Veteran forward, Avery Reeves, opened the scoring for York when she walked in from the blue line and riffled off a quick shot beating Ridgebacks goaltender,
Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C).
• Second-year forward,
Megan Johnston (Goderich, Ont.), tied things up for the Ridgebacks early in the third period when she faked the cross-ice pass to her linemate and then shot the puck just under the goalies blocker. This marked Johnston's first goal of the regular season.
• Ridgebacks captain,
Kassidy Nauboris, got the go-ahead goal late in the third period when she banked in a rebound with just under a minute left to play.
•
Brooke Vial made a total of 28 saves to earn the win against York and her second of the regular season.
• Lions goaltender, Lauren Dubie, made a total of 29 saves, including 12 in a pressure heavy third period.
