OUA east standings tighten as Ridgebacks fall to Redmen in overtime

MONTREAL, Que. – A much better result for the UOIT men's hockey team against the McGill Redmen saw them earn a single point in a 3-2 overtime loss on Friday night.

In their previous meeting in Oshawa the Ridgebacks fell 3-0, but this time around UOIT was able to lead for roughly half of the game as the Redmen equalizer didn't come until under two minutes remaining in regulation. That was followed by the eventual game-winning goal coming from Keanu Yamamoto on a Redmen power play in overtime.

A Carleton win and Concordia loss puts UOIT in fifth in the OUA east, four points out of home ice advantage for the postseason.

They will have opportunity to close that gap with Carleton when they face the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday in Ottawa. They will also then have games against Carleton and Concordia next weekend to end conference play.
  • McGill had three separate goal scorers in the game. Nikolas Brouillard opened the scoring at the 12:40 mark of the first period, while Jerome Verrier scored the game-tying goal.
Kyle Locke (Aurora, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks with his second of the year.
Brett Harasymuk (Yorkton, Sask.) tallied the go-ahead goal just under five minutes later, also his second of the season.
• Assists on the night went to Keaton Holinaty (Hardisty, Alta.), Harasymuk and Bryce Fiske (La Ronge, Sask.).
• Yamamoto picked up the game-winning goal for McGill.
Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) made 27 saves in the loss for UOIT.
• Louis-Philip Guindon turned aside 18 of 20 Ridgebacks shots for his 15th win of the season.
  Overall Record: 15-9-5
Conference Record: 13-7-5

Next game: Saturday, Feb. 2 @ Ottawa Gee-Gees • 7 p.m. - Ottawa, Ont.
