UOIT open new season with road win in Sudbury

SUDBURY, Ont. - Beginning the 2018-19 OUA campaign on the road, the UOIT Ridgebacks men's hockey team picked up a 5-2 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday night.

The Ridgebacks notched a goal in each period of the northern showdown, outshooting the Voyaguers 34-21 on the evening.

UOIT are right back at it tomorrow evening when they face off with the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. with all the action being streamed live on OUA.tv.
  • Fifth-year forward Mike Robinson (Stouffville, Ont.) picked up right where he left off a season ago, when he recorded a career-high 17 goals, by notching the first marker of the season just past the midway point of the opening frame. He would add an assist in the second and his second goal of the game in the third to round out his scoring.
• First-year standout Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.) registered his first career OUA goal just 90 seconds into the second frame with an assist from fellow rookie Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.).
• Just past the five-minute mark of the second period Josh Maguire (Cobourg, Ont.) scored the game winner with an unassisted shorthanded goal.
Malik Johnson (Montreal, Que.) rounded out the Ridgebacks scoring with his third period goal.
  • Fifth-year veteran Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) made the start in net for the Ridgebacks, recording 19 saves in his 42nd career OUA regular season win.
  Overall Record: 3-2-0 (W-L-OTL)
Conference Record: 1-0-0
