MHKY | Voyageurs Tamed by Lions

MHKY | Voyageurs Tamed by Lions

The Voyageurs traveled to Toronto this Friday, October 26th, to play the York Lions, which are always a tough opponent.

York in the 2017-2018 season finished 22-15 and lost in the OUA bronze medal game against the Concordia Stingers.

The Voyageurs were not phased by this Lions offensive powerhouse as it took almost the entire first frame for the Lions offensive attack to beat the Vees' Michael Giugovaz. The first goal of the game was potted by Justin Maiolino for the Lions and eventually closing out the first period in a 1-0 Lions contest.

Just as the first period, the second period held only one goal as well. Unfortunately, it was not in the Voyageurs favour as Dexter Bricker of the Lions was able to beat Giugovaz for a second time, putting the Lions up 2-0 at the end of the second.

The third period was a bit of a different story as Laurentian knew that they would need a different offensive approach to come out on top in this contest. Unfortunately, the Lions struck again scoring a third unanswered goal giving them a 3-0 lead as Reid Jackman scored on a Lions power play.

As the end was near the Voyageurs had an offensive push from Jayme Forslund on a Vees power play which resulted in a goal for Forslund and a couple of assists for Paul-Antoine Deslauriers and Xavier Couture. This goal would come with 5 minutes left in the third period but it wouldn't be enough as York would win 3-1 at the end of regulation.

The Voyageurs look to split the double-header as they return back to the Lions' home barn for a rematch on Saturday at 7pm
