Game Recap: Men's Hockey | | Kirsten Whelan

Lalonde leads, Laurentian leaves looking for love, literally

MONTREAL -- Christophe Lalonde of Mirabel, Que., scored twice, including the game-winner, as McGill tripled Laurentian University 6-2 in OUA men's hockey at McConnell Arena, Saturday. The Redmen outshot their guests by a massive 49-24 margin.

It improved McGill's record to 15-5-2 lifetime versus Laurentian, a team based in Sudbury, Ont.

Defenceman Nathan Chiarlitti, a master's student in kinesiology and physical education from Maple, Ont., put the Redmen on the scoreboard with a power-play marker on a nifty one-timer in the top-right corner at 12:04 of the first period. It was the third goal in four games for the first-year transfer from St. F.X. in the Atlantic conference.

Lalonde then tallied his pair to make it 3-1. The 5-foot-9, 188-pound left winger, scored his first on the power-play at 17:31 of the opening period, then added another at 4:49 of the second.

Samuel Tremblay of St. Hubert, Que., upped the score to 4-1 at 11:51 of the second period. Redgie Bois of Rouyn-Noranda, Que., pushed the lead to 5-2 at 18:10 of the middle frame and Simon Tardif-Richard of Gatineau, Que., closed the scoring with a power-play goal at 4:35 of the third.

Sophomore defenceman Dominic Talbot-Tassi of Mascouche, Que., collected three helpers and moved into seventh among OUA scoring leaders with a 1-13-14 record in nine contests. He is the third-top scoring rearguard in the nation.

Teammates Guillaume Gauthier of Ste. Marthe sur le Lac, Que.,and Jan Kaminsky of Kennesaw, Ga., each recorded a pair of assists.

Brent Pedersen and Darcy Haines were the goal scorers for the Voyageurs.

McGill was 3-for-7 on the power play, while Laurentian went 1-for-5.

Redmen netminder Louis-Philip Guindon, a kinesiology freshman from St. Joseph-du-Lac, Que., stopped 22 of 24 shots for the win, improving his record to 5-1.

Voyageurs starter Joel Vienneau (0-5) collected the loss after allowing three goals on 28 shots. He was replaced midway through the second period after suffering what appeared to be a groin injury while making a save on a breakaway. His understudy Charlie Millen stopped 18 of 21 pucks in 29:19 played in relief.

McGill (7-2-0) travels to Waterloo, in Southern Ontario next weekend. They play at Laurier (4-5-1) and Waterloo (3-4-2), Nov. 11-12, respectively. Laurentian (4-5-1) plays Ryerson (6-2-1) on Saturday (Nov. 12).

REDMEN RAP:  Among the lineup scratches was injured team captain Patrick Delisle-Houde and defenceman Etienne Boutet... The team recently affixed a black decal to their helmets with the initials SB, in memory of Dr. Sylvain Boutet, father of Redmen brothers Etienne and Jasmin, who passed away on Oct, 1.
