Ridgebacks unable to upset No. 5 ranked Gee-Gees

OTTAWA, Ont. – Hoping to move up the OUA east standings on Saturday, the UOIT women's soccer team was handed a 1-0 loss to the nationally-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Delaney Rickert-Hall scored the lone goal of the match from roughly 25 yards out, placing the ball out of the reach of Ridgebacks' keeper Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.).

Although the result is better than the 4-1 loss at Vaso's Field last month, it has dropped the Ridgebacks to fourth in the OUA east, making a bye to the quarter-final more difficult – yet not impossible.

Savage made 12 saves in Saturday afternoon's loss, while Margot Shore made five in Ottawa's win.

UOIT will battle the Carleton Ravens at 1 p.m. on Sunday, while the second and third place Queen's Gaels and Nipissing Lakers play each other in North Bay. A win by Queen's guarantees them second seed should the Ridgebacks win their final two games, while a draw gives UOIT the best opportunity to move up the ladder. A Lakers victory will also keep second place within reach.

The Ridgebacks final conference and home game is Saturday at Vaso's Field against the Trent Excalibur. Kick off is 1 p.m.

  Overall Record: 8-6-2 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 7-5-2

Next match: Sunday, Oct. 14 @ Carleton Ravens • 1 p.m. - Ottawa, Ont.
