Johnston scores game-winning goal in back-to-back games in weekend sweep

LONDON, Ont. – It's officially a win streak. The Ontario Tech University women's hockey team has won three in a row, after defeating the Western Mustangs 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

After opening the scoring and providing the shootout winner the night before, Megan Johnston (Goderich, Ont.) had a pair of key goals, including the overtime winner.

The Ridgebacks skated stride-for-stride with the Mustangs throughout the game, earning and maintaining a one-goal lead throughout the first two periods. Ontario Tech stumbled early in the third as the home side tied the game under two minutes in, before taking the lead on a power play maker later in the period. This queued up Johnston for her heroics, tying the game with under five minutes to play and ultimately winning it in the extra frame.

The Ridgebacks will now return home for a Friday night matchup against the No. 9 York Lions for Military Appreciation Night at the Campus Ice Centre.
Natalie Wozney (Whitby, Ont.) got the Ridgebacks on the board first with a wrist shot through traffic on the power play with just 3:22 left in the first period.
• Rachel Armstrong tied the game 1-1 just 1:57 into the third period, while April Clark gave the Mustangs the 2-1 lead on the power play at 7:15 of the third.
• Johnston was able to find whole and bank the puck off the goalie and in from the goal line at 13:42 of the final frame. She then took the feed from Wozney for a breakaway and made no mistake at 4:21 of the overtime period.   Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) provided 39 saves for her second straight win.
• Tareya Webster stopped 37 shots in the loss.
