OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's soccer team has helped their fate with a pair of victories in their final home weekend, most recently capped off with a 1-0 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday.
Out of a playoff position heading into the weekend, the Ridgebacks ended it one point ahead of the Trent Excalibur for the sixth and final position. The two teams will meet next weekend, meaning Ontario Tech just needs a draw or win to advance to the playoffs.
Melanie Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ont.) scored the lone goal in the match in the 53
rd minute, giving Ontario Tech the lead.
Alicia Chisholm (Woodbridge, Ont.) earned the clean sheet victory for the Ridgebacks, while Heather McGregor took the loss for Laurentian.
Following the match the five Ontario Tech women's soccer graduates were recognized during a short ceremony. This year's graduating class includes
Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.),
Mikaela Tierney (King City, Ont.),
Georgia Wilder (Zurich, Ont.), Lauran Rea (Burnaby, B.C.) and
Rhiannon Kissel (Peterborough, Ont.).
Kick-off next Saturday in Peterborough against the Excalibur is slated for 1 p.m.
