Better effort keeps Ridgebacks close against Badgers, Marauders

HAMILTON, Ont. – After a tough weekend against two of the top teams in the country, the Ontario Tech women's basketball program had a better effort against the Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders this weekend.
 
Jolesha Allen-Brown (Oshawa, Ont.) led the Ridgebacks scoring over the weekend with a combined 41 points over the two games.
 
In the 78-50 loss to the Badgers she dropped 13 on 5-for-14 shooting, while going 3-for-8 from three. Vanessa Budimunda (Montreal, Que.) scored 10, while Aprille Whyne (Montreal, Que.) led the Ridgebacks in boards with eight. She also scored eight points on the night.
 
Allen-Brown had a season-high 28 points for Ontario Tech in their 87-55 loss to McMaster on Saturday in Hamilton. She was 10-for-22 from the floor, while going 7-for-14 from three to be the only Ridgeback in double-digits.
 
Next weekend the Ridgebacks return home to host the Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors.
 
Saturday night will be Ontario Tech's Black History Month kick-off, which includes performances from community groups, while also engaging on-campus groups. Prior to tip-off of the men's game the Ridgebacks will also recognize Fadi Salback, Taylor (Landry) VanMoerkerke and Nicole Martindale with a banner unveiling ceremony for their accomplishments as Ridgebacks.
