25 OUA Teams Nationally Ranked
U Sports Top 10 – September 19th, 2017
The U Sports Top Ten makes a return this week, as 25 OUA teams have made their way into the standings across 6 sports.
For Football, Waterloo has made their way back into the national rankings since 2007. With their currently undefeated season, the Waterloo Warriors now sit as the number 9th ranked team in the country. OUA powerhouses Western and Laurier maintain their 4th and 5th positions. Just ahead of Waterloo sit the McMaster Marauders as they moved up from their previous 8th place ranking.
In the Men’s Soccer standings, there are currently 4 nationally ranked teams. Ryerson made the biggest leap this week from their 7th place position to sit at number 4. Guelph maintained their 5th place, while Toronto Varsity Blues dropped from 3rd place to 6th place. New joiner Western Mustangs have cracked the top 10 rankings as they made their way into the final spot.
The Women’s Soccer rankings have representatives from the OUA in the 4th (Ottawa), 5th (Western), and 8th (Queen’s) positions.
Women’s Rugby stay consistent this week as Guelph (3), McMaster (6), and Queen’s (7) maintain their positions within the U Sports Top Ten.
This week saw the addition of Cross Country to the national rankings. For Men’s Cross Country, the OUA kept 50% of the standings, as there were 5 teams included within the inaugural rankings. Guelph held the highest spot at number 2, followed by Western at No.4, McMaster at No.5, Queen’s at No.6, and Windsor with the final OUA spot at number 9. Finally, Women’s Cross Country also saw a large number of OUA teams within the rankings. Queen’s and Guelph led the way with the number 1 and 2 spots, while Toronto, Western and McMaster finished in the 4th, 7th, and 9th positions respectively.
