Pocrnic, Otoo named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Kali Pocrnic and Kevin Otoo have been named OUA athletes of the week, fueled by Milk2Go Sport, for the period ending March 5, 2023.
Kali Pocrnic, Basketball, Carleton
Kali Pocrnic produced a week to remember for the Carleton Ravens, with an exclamation point performance in the team’s Critelli Cup victory.
Prior to punching their ticket to the OUA women’s basketball finale, Pocrnic first needed to help her team overcome McMaster in the semifinals. On the heels of 21 points, four rebounds, and three assists for the third-year guard, the Ravens were able to secure a spot in the banner season finale to take on the top-ranked Gaels therein, a game in which the team once again turned to Pocrnic for a leading effort.
After a quiet start that saw the guard get in early foul trouble, the Oakville, Ont. product stepped up time and time again to not only bring the Ravens back from an early deficit, but put them in the driver’s seat down the stretch. Big shot after big shot, including multiple makes from downtown, helped keep the Queen’s side at bay and led Carleton to the 70-57 win.
Pocrnic finished the final game with 23 points, three rebounds, and four assists, en route to being named the Critelli Cup MVP, presented by Milk2Go Sport.
Kevin Otoo, Basketball, Ottawa
Kevin Otoo turned in two tremendous performances for the Ottawa Gee-Gees, helping them capture their first Wilson Cup title since 2014.
Otoo, a Toronto, Ont. local, started the week with an instrumental 18-point outing in the team’s semifinal against the Windsor Lancers. He punctuated the performance, which also featured five rebounds and an assist, with a last minute steal-and-score to secure Ottawa a spot in the conference’s men’s basketball championship.
The fourth-year guard then followed that up with another productive night in a clash with the Carleton Ravens at the Ravens’ Nest. A big part of his bountiful banner season performance came beyond the arc, as he drained four three-points en route to 17 points in the 79-57 Wilson Cup win. Otoo would chip in three steals and two assists against their cross-town rivals as well to help them avenge a pair of regular season losses to the top-ranked team in the country.
The interdisciplinary studies student capped off the week by capturing Player of the Game honours at the Wilson Cup Championship, presented by Milk2Go Sport.
