Olivier, Warnholtz named OUA athletes of the week

Burlington, Ont. – Carley Olivier and Aiden Warnholtz have been named OUA athletes of the week, fueled by Milk2Go Sport, for the period ending January 29, 2023.

Fresh off of her return from a gold medal win at the 2023 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, N.Y., Carley Olivier didn’t miss a beat when she rejoined her Waterloo teammates this past weekend.

After leading all defenders in scoring at the international competition, the reigning OUA MVP was right back at it for the black and gold, totaling another four points in two Warriors wins. Waterloo first hit the road to Kingston for a Saturday clash with Queen’s, and after seeing the Gaels get on the board just 30 seconds in, it was a tying goal from Olivier, followed by an assist on the eventual game-winner, that helped spark her side to the 6-1 win.

After setting up the game-winner the day prior, the fifth-year defender took matters into her own hands against Ontario Tech on Sunday, as she netted that honour halfway through the second period. Not only that, but with the Ridgebacks down by just one late in the game, the Sudbury, Ont. product sealed the win with an ever-important insurance marker to cap off the win and her four-point weekend (3G, 1A).

Olivier is now sixth in OUA scoring and first among defenders with eight goals and 13 assists – good for 21 points – in just 18 games played.

Aiden Warnholtz, Basketball, Carleton



In need of a bounce back performance, the powerhouse Ravens program turned to a veteran to help right the ship, and Aiden Warnholtz delivered in a big way as part of Carleton’s two-win weekend.

Starting off tough against the No. 4 ranked Queen’s Gaels, Warnholtz helped guide the Ravens’ impressive offensive showing with a team-high 28 points. Much of his success came from his pin-point precision behind the arc, wherein he knocked down six of 10 three pointers. He would add seven rebounds, five assists, and a pair of blocks in the well-rounded performance en route to a 103-89 Carleton win.

If that wasn’t enough, Warnholtz went right back to work on the offensive side of the ball in Carleton’s 86-73 win over Ontario Tech. After eclipsing the 20-point plateau for the first time in 2023 against Queen’s, the fourth-year guard’s encore was a season-high 36 points against the Ridgebacks, good for 42% of the team’s point production. The health sciences major would round out his weekend efforts with another three rebounds, three assists, and a steal, capping off what could prove to be two critical wins down the home stretch of the season.

Warnholtz sits atop the team in scoring with his now 16.7 points per game on the year.
