OUA By the Numbers (Oct. 4)
24,420 – Fans filled TD Place for the 49th Panda Game between the Carleton Ravens and the Ottawa Gee Gees. The total crowd, which set a new record mark for attendees by surpassing the 2016 total (23,329), witnessed a thrilling 2OT victory from the Ravens, beating the Gee Gees 33-30 for their 4th straight Panda Game win.
361 - The Western Mustangs came out on top in their Yates Cup rematch with the Laurier Golden Hawks, thanks in large part to their ground game. The Mustangs tallied 361 yards rushing on 7.8 YPC, which included a pair of 100+ yard rushers for the game – Chris Merchant (143) and Alex Taylor (124).
329 – En route to their undefeated season, the Brock Badgers Women’s Rugby team tallied an impressive 353 points while giving up just 24. What makes this +329 point differential even more impressive is that just one year before, the Badgers gave up 337 points and scored just 88.
150 - With their first win of the season, a 54-10 victory over the Windsor Lancers, the Queen’s Gaels helped Coach Pat Sheahan earn his 150th career win, an impressive feat for Sheahan, who is in his 18th season with the Gaels and is the longest tenured coach in the OUA.
102 - In an offensively charged tilt between the Waterloo Warriors and Guelph Gryphons, the two teams combined to score 102 points, making it the highest scoring game in the OUA this season. Thanks to a 41-point second half, the Gryphons were able to come out on top of the high-scoring affair by a score of 53-49.
81 – After his 11 save performance against the Nipissing Lakers and 7 more against the Carleton Ravens this week, Laurentian Voyageur’s goalkeeper Connor Vande Weghe pushed his save total up to 81 on the OUA season, more than 20 clear of the next highest count.
12 – It was a high scoring weekend for the Queen’s Gaels Women’s Soccer team, who played a pair of games against the Varsity Blues and Rams. With a total of six goals in each game, the Gaels totaled an impressive 12 (including four from the OUA’s leading scorer, Laura Callender) for the weekend, helping them push their record to 7-2-1 for the season.
0 – In the second half of the team’s double header on Saturday, Laurier Golden Hawks starting pitcher Christian Hauck strung together a complete game no-hitter – the second of his career – shutting down the Waterloo Warriors across the seven inning affair and leading the team to a 5-0 win.
