Sophie de Goede and Abdallah El-Chanti are the OUA Investor's Group Athletes of the Week, powered by 2XU
BURLINGTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Investors Group Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week, powered by 2XU for the period ending September 12, 2017.
Female - Sophie de Goede (Victoria, B.C.) – 1st year – Queen's
In her first year in OUA action, Sophie de Goede is making an immediate impact for the Queen's Gaels.
The rookie from Victoria, B.C., who plays back row for the Gaels, had two tries and three conversions 57-12 victory over Western that gave head coach Dan Valley his first win.
For the first year player studying commerce, she has already made an impactful contribution on the field, with 16 points in each of her first two matches to lead he Gaels. Her 32 points is good for second in the league, while her four tries places her in second in that category for the OUA.
Queen's will look to move to 2-1 on the season when they take on the York Lions at Alumni Field at 7:00 PM on Friday.
MALE – Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto, Ont.) – 2nd year – Ryerson Rams – Soccer
The second year geographic analysis major was dynamic this past weekend in a pair of Rams victories, finishing with five points in two games.
In Ryerson's opening game on the weekend, El-Chanti had the game-winning goal and picked up an assist in a 3-2 win over UOIT.
Against Trent, he had a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and an assist in a 4-0 win over Trent.
The Rams' midfielder was lethal this weekend, scoring on three of the four shots he took this weekend. His five-point performance over the weekend vaults him into a tie for second in the OUA in points.
The Toronto native continues to demonstrating his play-making abilities, leading the OUA with four assists.
Toronto, which sits tied atop the OUA along with rival Ryerson, will look to keep look to extend their three-game winning streak when they take on the Trent Excalibur Saturday afternoon at 3:15 PM at Justin Chiu Stadium.
