York hires Milligan-Jones as new varsity athletics manager
York University Athletics & Recreation announced on Tuesday that Hailey Milligan-Jones has been hired as the new manager, varsity athletics – leadership and community outreach.
She joins a leadership team for York varsity athletics that includes associate director Gillian McCullough as well as Bart Zemanek, who will remain as a varsity athletics manager with a focus on high performance sport and alumni relations.
Milligan-Jones comes to York with a wealth of experience in sport as an administrator, athlete and coach. She has spent the last two years with Ontario University Athletics, first as the marketing and events assistant and, most recently, as the senior sport operations coordinator. Previously, she was the healthy active living supervisor with the Kiwanis Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton. Before that, she was a varsity women's basketball player at McMaster University and spent one season playing professionally in the Czech Republic.
"As we look to solidify our commitment to developing the best well-rounded students-athletes at York, the addition of Hailey is a tremendous key to that process," said Jennifer Myers, executive director of Athletics & Recreation. "I believe her extensive work in developing strong community relationships and her proven track record as a leader will position the Lions to reach new heights. I could not be more thrilled to have Hailey join an already strong team that is dedicated to the success of our varsity teams and student-athletes both on and off the field of play."
Milligan-Jones was a star for the Marauders and, throughout her career, earned the Joy Bellinger Award and the Sylvia Sweeney Award for excellence as a student-athlete in the OUA and U SPORTS, respectively. She was a two-time OUA all-star and McMaster's female athlete of the year in 2014.
"I am excited to join the York Lions family and to be a part of an outstanding team with a tremendous reputation," said Milligan-Jones. "I am honoured to be welcomed into The Pride and take my career in varsity athletics to the next level while helping the Athletics & Recreation Department reach its goals, including strengthening its community relationships."
Milligan-Jones will start her new role at York on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
