GUELPH, ON (May 18, 2017) The University of Guelph has entered into a new, multi-year relationship with Rogers Media to award scholarships as well as support multimedia and digital media training, development, and production at the university.
This innovative partnership pairs the University of Guelph and Gryphon Athletics with Rogers Media, a diversified Canadian media company comprised of television and radio stations, digital assets, magazine brands, as well as subscription-based services geared to delivering compelling content to Canadians nationwide.
"We are thrilled to announce this exciting new partnership," said University of Guelph, Director of Athletics Scott McRoberts. "We are very excited to have Rogers Media join our team. Their support of our GryphVision broadcasting team here at Guelph is significant and their vision for the partnership will help us continue to grow. Our talented team is looking forward to the opportunity to build on the tradition already established and continue to bring our Gryphon fans the very best in sports broadcasting."
This new partnership with Rogers Media will:
- Establish and support sports media and broadcasting scholarships over five years. Students registered in any University of Guelph program are eligible, but selection will be based on a demonstrated interest in sports media with a preference for students minoring in Media & Cinema Studies.
- Establish the Sportsnet Broadcast Centre inside the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, providing students with modern training facilities and access to industry-standard equipment and resources.
- Support the acquisition of industry-standard equipment and resources for the Sportsnet Broadcast Centre and the training of students through its on-going operations.
"As the media landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace, it is vital to be on the cutting edge of innovation and development," said Anthony Attard, VP, Sports and NHL Sales, Sportsnet. "We are proud to invest in scholarships, training programs and facilities that are developing the next generation of leaders in the broadcast and media industry."
The new partnership between University of Guelph and Rogers Media will provide Gryphon Athletics an even more valuable platform to reach University sport fans across the country.
